Similarities Between A Debit Card & VISA Prepaid Card

By Clara Nelson

It is easy to be confused between these three kinds of cards; debit card, credit card, and VISA prepaid card. There is a guide which will help you differentiate between the three. Debit Cards A debit card comes under debit card programs; this card is linked to your bank account. The money contained within a debit card is your own money. This money is not borrowed nor does it belong to another person. When you use your debit card to make purchases, you pay directly from your bank account; this saves you the time from going to the bank personally to withdraw cash, and is also faster and more convenient.

What Are Credit Cards? Good question, a lot of people are often at a loss when it comes to distinctions between a credit card and a debit card. Unlike debit cards, credit cards are not a part of the debit card programs; they also have rewards accumulating on their use but not under that program.

The perks which you will receive are dependent on the different debit card programs offered by the bank and the place which is allowing you to benefit, like the gas station. These perks can be anything from an airline ticket, cash back, or a discount at a store or restaurant. These perks are not offered on all debit cards. Most of these debit cards are issued by the store which allows you to benefit from this program.

Like a debit card, a VISA prepaid card also lets the holders of the cards receive perks on its usage. A prepaid card is like a debit card in the sense that it is recharged with a certain amount of cash; let's say you use your prepaid card at a gas station which offers points on every use.

What Are VISA Prepaid Cards? A VISA prepaid card is like a debit card in many ways, the card allows access to money as well, but the money belongs to the holder. Let us assume that you buy a gift card for a friend, but before you receive the gift card you have to pay for it.

VISA Prepaid Cards A VISA prepaid card allows the user the same access as a debit card does. The term 'prepaid' means to have already paid for, so basically it is your money stored within a card. This card can be in the form of a gift card as well; before you walk out of a store with a gift card you have to pay for it with the same amount of money. Some charge extra for it. In other words you get the same amount of money back in the form of a gift card which you can gift to a family member or friend.

A VISA prepaid card also allows you to use the card wherever you feel the need to use it. The card holds a certain amount which you load. Let's say you load US $1000 on the card; now you have that specific limit to avail however you like, but since the money is yours and it is already stored within the card, it makes the card a prepaid card.

If more money is needed you can recharge once again, if there is money left in the account you can utilize the amount in the next transaction you make.
