POS plan refers to Point of Service which bears similarity to HMO. It offers access to more services that what is offered under HMO. With increased coverage, the cost of medical services will increase. A prescription may be required when visiting a specialist. POS is more expensive than HMO but cheaper than PPO.

Preferred Provider Organization is commonly known as PPO. This is an enhancement beyond Part A and Part B that offer basic coverage. It is arguably the most expensive plan in its range. When visiting a specialist, you are not mandated to have a referral. Further, though its monthly payments and premiums are high, you will pay less out of pocket for most conditions.
