The National Benefits Authority is a body that has been established to make it easier for those who qualify to get the benefits such as the disability tax credit and similar benefits for the disables.

However, how well do those eligible understand how to take advantage of these benefits? This is the big question. To begin with, there is a list from the government authorities outlining all the conditions that can be used to determine if an individual qualifies or not. In broad terms, the conditions can either be associated with a physical impairment, mental illness or chronic conditions that have a significant hindrance to the life of the individual.

Obviously, the beginning point is to find out if you qualify. Generally, the status must be examined by a qualified doctor who is also licensed to practice in the area. The doctor conducts an assessment and certifies that the person qualifies. They give the disabled person a certificate to certify their status and the certificate can be used to claim the benefits.

Generally, a person that qualifies for this benefit in their income tax is either suffering from a physical impairment or some mental condition that make it difficult to live a normal life. The condition can be from birth or as a result of injury or illness and has been long lasting, for at least one year.

There must be some form of illness, injury or a condition affecting the brain or physical deformity. The condition should be affecting the ability of this person to perform some daily activities normally. The commonly affected functions include seeing, hearing, walking, dressing, eating, speaking, and the mental functionality.

In this certificate, the medical practitioner needs to specify how the condition impacts your life, confirm the seriousness of the condition, and state that it is likely to persist for a long period. Once this is complete, it is now easy to claim your income tax credit.

The application is so easy; in fact, there are a number of agencies that are ready to help you through the application process. However, even with the help from these agencies, you never know what to really expect. It is best to do your part by filling in all the required forms and make sure that your doctor also fills in the required parts. In order to certify the requirements set by the revenue authorities, the forms need to be filled in a specific matter.

Just take a step to transfer the benefits to your common-law partner. This can be your spouse or the person supporting you, only that both of you have to be resident citizens. Well, this benefit may not take away all the problems caused by the condition, however, it is best to take steps to claim the benefits.
