Robert Jain: What To Avoid When Shopping During The Holidays

By Jason McDonald

Have you been doing your holiday shopping? If so, you may have encountered some issues with money, whether it's not having enough, missing out on sales, or what have you. One of the reasons this time of the year is stressful for people - and such names in finance as Robert Jain will agree - is that they're constantly worried about their finances. With this in mind, here are some money-saving mistakes to avoid during this hectic period.

If you're going to shop during the holidays, understand that online deals are just as good as, if not better than, the ones found in traditional retail. As names such as Bob Jain will attest, ecommerce has recognized that more and more people prefer to shop online. They don't want to leave their homes, but this doesn't mean that they should miss out on deals. Shopping online is a great way to not only save money but time as well, so don't rely strictly on traditional retail.

Another holiday shopping mistake to recognize is failure to make a list. This is different from the one Santa Claus keeps, as this list will help you tally the purchases that you make during the holiday season. Such a list will help you keep track of what you're spending, not to mention reduce the likelihood of making impulse purchases as well. Records matter, especially during busy shopping days like this.

You should also be creative, as a lack of creativity can result in you spending more money than necessary. It's common to want to spend more money on your loved ones, as this, in theory, results in better gifts. However, you may be surprised to know that this isn't entirely necessary. In fact, if you focus more on what your loved ones enjoy, and base your gift ideas around those concepts, you may be surprised by how much more money you can save.

Another mistake that holiday shoppers tend to make is waiting too long to actually shop. You may think that you can get everything done the week before Christmas, but the truth of the matter is that this can be very difficult. Not only are stores more crowded during this period, but you may find it difficult to mail out what you need, as evidenced by historically long lines at post offices. The earlier that you get everything done, the better off you'll be.
