Expatriate Guide: How To Get Good Tehran Apartments For Rent

By Larry Williams

One key challenge that an expatriate is likely to experience upon relocating to a new work destination is finding a good residence. For those traveling to Iran, however, the process of getting accommodation is pretty straightforward and easy. As the capital has a large working population, it has numerous options of Tehran apartments for rent.

Most foreigners visiting the country for work often get posted to the capital city. Over the years, employers have been the main people responsible for organizing accommodation for their workers. However, not many people are this lucky. Some have to plan where they are going to reside even before jetting in.

Thanks to an increase in the number of expatriates working for multinational companies, rent prices have gradually increased with the passing of the years. The saving grace is that one is not likely to get a poorly maintained apartment upon paying top dollar. Construction companies are consistently constructing exquisite buildings, an aspect that draws many moneyed expatriates.

The best thing you could do is get your finances in order before booking your ticket. Being a Sharia compliant country, you are likely to get into big trouble if you do not pay your rent. Talk to your employer about your options in advance. In the end, you should have a budget that will be able to cater for your stay, food and movement.

If the rest of your family is tagging along, try to get a place that has got facilities such as schools nearby. The local estates are largely well organized with hospitals and schools in close proximity. However, a low cost estate is likely to have useful amenities located quite a distance away. For the safety of your kids, reside in an estate that has a school close by.

Most housing units within the heart of the city are the high end types. As a nation rich in oil, most of the Iranian people are wealthy. As such, almost everything is expensive. Healthcare and private education rank high in this list. Assuming your apartment is situated in the city center, it will probably have a sauna, health club and swimming pool close by.

One trick to use to get a good place with minimal trouble is to do online research. As internet use is often restricted in the country, ensure you gather the information you need before relocating. There are many online property listings for options within and outside the city center. Some sites also contain crucial pricing information.

In case you are already in the area and are yet to find somewhere to stay, a rental agency would be your best option. There are several of these that you could turn to. Most agencies use English owing to the nature of majority of their clientele. For this reason, finding something you like should not take long.

Lastly, try to go over your rental agreement before signing off on it. Iranians take agreements very seriously. A simple violation may land you a hefty fine or jail time. With due diligence, you will certainly enjoy your stay.
