Tips To Inject Some Fun Into Compliance Webinars

By Carolyn Ellis

Generally, most employees don't usually look forward to training seminars. Devoid of fun and excitement, such events are commonly associated with endless hours of watching rigidly-scripted tutorials and going through dreary modules. But believe it or not, it's actually possible to create compliance webinars that spark some enthusiasm among the trainees.

To develop the right content for your audience, it would help to get a glimpse into their general preferences. This would involve digging up some information on their professional and educational backgrounds. For your research, you could obtain the relevant information by interviewing various individuals and observing them while they work. This will help you know what learning approach works best for them.

Using characters in your courses gives you the opportunity to enhance comprehension and retention of the material. Such elements could take up various roles, from facilitators to narrators. Still, you need to develop each character in such a manner that the audience relates well to it as opposed to providing an irritating distraction.

Most people would generally be interested in something if they can relate well to it. You can take advantage of this by utilizing a few thought-provoking scenarios into the training courses. By challenging the learners to think deeply about the issue and make choices that yield meaningful results, the trainees are able to understand the material better. And because the scenario is strongly linked to real-world applications, the audience will see what value the training process holds.

Perhaps the biggest mistake most course content creators make is the use of rigid modules. This makes the courses appear menacing in the eyes of your audience. But just like humor works effectively in easing up tense social scenarios, so is the case with online compliance seminars. What really matters is the dose; you need just the right amount of funny elements to add humor while still retaining the respect of your audience.

Generally, the most challenging element of online training according to employees is the abundant content they need to absorb. Typically, the syllabus is comprised of lengthy modules and numerous assignments. This creates a huge burden that only goes to make the experience less pleasant for participants. You should thus break the content up into concise modules that are more digestible. Most people wouldn't object to 30-minute modules because they can be taken on-the-go or whenever it's convenient for the individual.

Using video tutorials in place of conventional media is a good way to add some engagement and fun into training courses. To properly immerse your learners into the course, you could add a few animated elements and live actors into your videos. But if this sounds too much, you'll be delighted to know that even normal slides would work just fine. So take some time to look for the right elements that suit your subject matter and embed them into your videos.

Even the most mundane subject matter could be transformed into an exciting and educational experience with a few tips. Instead of viewing it as another arduous chore, the participants will see it as a good opportunity to have fun. This in turn means they're likely to grasp your content and retain it in their minds for longer.
