By Richard Davis

A certified accountant is a term for those who are being qualified as accountants. They need to pass the accountant examination and they will need to meet the additional education and experiences as requirements for their membership and for them to get their certification as a CPA. For those who have not passed the exam and were not being able to have an on the job experience are requested to have a CPA inactive status.

A lot of states have prohibited the usage of certified accountant terms to people who are not yet verified to be a CPA of state. And this would literally mean that they cannot be called like that until such time that they can obtain their certificate or their license. Certified public accountant San Luis Obispo is related to the assurance services or financial audit services as it is usually called as.

Being certified means that you have to pass all necessary examinations especially the exam for the Uniform CPA. The board of accountancy in a place is going to determine a students eligibility in taking the exam. Almost all places are adopting to the 150 rule where in students need to accomplish 150 units of the college semester.

Most of the time, the 150 rules requires another 1 year of education after accomplishing the four years of the college degree. In most universities, the 5 years degree for both the bachelors and masters have been offered now for students so that they can accomplish these two just in one time. This also allows the students to receive the needed 150 hours for their eligibility.

Licensing and certification requirements are also needed, but these may vary from different places. The requirements for qualification are education, examination, and experience. The education requirement must be fulfilled to be able to sit for the uniform examination. For two tier states, when the student will pass the examination, he or she will then be certified. And later on, will be given the license if ever he or she has accomplished the certain amount of work experience.

In some states, they are making use of the one tier system where an individual can be both certified and licensed, if both the work experience and exam are met. Not like other professionals, one important requirement for accountants is to have continuing education of courses for developing continuous professionalism. This requirements may vary in different states.

Some places may require 40 hours of the general professional ethics every year. This can be fulfilled by attending seminars or by self studying through online courses, textbooks, or videos. So this means that the boards may accept internet based credits for the requirements and there are also states that accepts credits from the self study format.

There are many people who are appointed in many lower tier states regarding the qualifications. Some are appointed as public accountant and also as licensed public accountant. Some might also be appointed as an accounting practitioner or registered accounting practitioner.

These terms are often appointed for accountants who are non CPA. These type of accountants are still practicing before the law. In most cases, it is prohibited to appoint them as such since they are not yet verified as PA or LPA.
